IHSAA TO INDUCT FOUR INTO HALL OF FAME - 2007
The Idaho High School Activities Association’s Hall of Fame annually honors individuals who
have given many years of exemplary service to Idaho’s youth. Four such individuals will be
inducted as the Hall of Fame Class of 2007. Don Armstrong, Potlatch, Jack Jones, Nampa,
Sherie Patano, Post Falls and Bill Young, Caldwell will be honored at ceremonies during the
28th annual Hall of Fame banquet Wednesday, August 1, 6:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Riverside
Hotel in Boise.
Other awards to be presented at the banquet include the Dick Fleischmann Memorial Award to
Andy Barron, Twin Falls; the Wes Lowe Memorial Award to Lynn Payne, Declo; and the Duane D.
Wolfe Memorial Award Doug Manning, Burley. Distinguished Service Awards are given by each
of six activity districts. This year’s recipients are: District I, Dick Harris, Post Falls;
District II, the late Gary Stears, Grangeville; Dist III, Steve Jones, Caldwell; District IV, Blaine Tingey, Carey; District V, Bill Dean, Rockland; District VI, Linda Zollinger, Challis.
Banquet tickets are $20.00, available by advance purchase only from the IHSAA. Orders are
due July 28. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door.
Hall of Fame - Class of 2007
Don Armstrong, Potlatch - Don Armstrong retired in 2006, having served northern Idaho schools for thirty-nine years as an influential principal and superintendent. Throughout his career, was a leader of several professional organizations including the Dists. I and II Boards of Control, IHSAA Board of Directors and the Youth Endowment Board of Directors.
Jack Jones, Nampa - Schools in the Treasure Valley owe a great deal to dedicated educators such as Jack Jones, an exemplary teacher, coach, administrator, official, commissioner and district secretary who retired from Vallivue High School in 1999. Jack has devoted over forty years to providing quality programs for students, service to District III and professional development for football officials.
Sherie Patano, Post Falls - Instrumental in the advancement of girls athletics in Idaho, Sherie Patano spent thirty-seven years of a forty-year career in Post Falls as a teacher, coach, activities director and principal before retiring in 2006. Sherie was a valuable contributor to many programs and professional organizations, and served six years on the IHSAA Board of Directors and sixteen years on the District I Board of Control.
Bill Young, Caldwell - After an illustrious 44-year career as a multi-sport coach, athletic director, principal and, for eighteen years, executive director of the IHSAA, Bill Young retired July 1, 2006. He spent twenty-six years at Middleton and Vallivue High schools prior to assuming leadership of the IHSAA in 1988. Bill was a member of the IHSAA Board of Directors from 1980-1987 and the NFHS Board of Directors from 1994-1997.
