IHSAA TO INDUCT THREE INTO HALL OF FAME - 2008
The Idaho High School Activities Association’s Hall of Fame annually honors individuals who have given many years of exemplary service to Idaho’s youth. Three such individuals will be inducted as the Hall of Fame Class of 2008. Tom Farley, Star, Larry Schwenke, Coeur d’Alene, and Diane Wolf, Boise will be honored at ceremonies during the 29th annual Hall of Fame banquet Wednesday, August 6, 6:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Riverside Hotel in Boise.
Three Memorial Awards will be presented at the banquet. They include the Dick Fleischmann Memorial Award for excellence in tournament management – Jay Darrington, Declo; the Wes Lowe Memorial Award for selfless dedication to students – Wayne “Bud” Koski, Mullan; and the Duane D. Wolfe Memorial Award to a community member who has provided long-time service to high school activities – Lee Cline, Buhl.
Distinguished Service Awards are given by each of six activity districts. This year’s recipients are: District I - Rich Lund, Kootenai; District II – Jim Wilund, Lewiston; Dist III – Larry Haddock, Parma; District IV - Kelly Murphey, Castleford; District V – Don Cotant, Pocatello; District VI – no award.
Banquet tickets are $25.00, available by advance purchase only from the IHSAA. Orders are due by August 1. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door.
Hall of Fame - Class of 2008
Tom Farley, Star Tom Farley retired as Bureau Chief of the State Department of Education in 2005 after forty years of dedicated, exemplary service to the students of Idaho. During his career he was a successful north Idaho teacher, coach and school administrator, a valuable IHSAA resource in the Department of Education, and an IHSAA Board member. Tom was always a “voice for the students of Idaho” and dedicated himself to making decisions that would positively impact students across the state. Tom remains active in IHSAA events, especially as a volunteer at the state track meet.
Larry Schwenke, Coeur d’Alene Larry Schwenke spent thirty-five years in Coeur d’Alene promoting and administering quality programs for students across the state and his legacy will be felt for years to come. He has served in numerous leadership positions for professional organizations such as the IAAA, NIAAA, and IHSAA over the course of his career. Larry was named Activities Director of the Year twice for his hard work and his promotion of participation, sportsmanship, and character. He retired in June, 2007, but continues his service to the IAAA.
Diane Wolf, Boise No one has impacted the area of cheer and dance in the state of Idaho more than Diane Wolf, who spent twenty-four years teaching and coaching in the Meridian School District before becoming IHSAA Assistant Director in 1998. During her tenure at the IHSAA she was instrumental in the development of recognition programs including Schools of Excellence and Legends of the Game. Retired in September 2007, Diane continues to work at the local, state and national level to promote spirit safety, technical training and coaches’ education.
