The mission of the Idaho High School Activities Association is to coordinate, supervise, and direct interscholastic activities which enhance and protect the total educational process of all student participants. All activities programs shall be formulated to promote citizenship and the academic mission of the school.

IHSAA TO INDUCT THREE INTO HALL OF FAME - 2012

The Idaho High School Activities Association's Hall of Fame annually honors individuals who have given many years of exemplary service to Idaho's youth. Three such individuals will be inducted as the Hall of Fame Class of 2012. Jessie Eddy (Parma), Leon Long (Nampa), and Gerry Nutt (Kuna/Middleton) will be honored at ceremonies during the 33rd annual Hall of Fame banquet Wednesday, August 1, 6:30 p.m. at the Riverside Hotel in Boise. Ticket information will be posted on the IHSAA website in late April.

Other awards to be presented at the banquet include the Dick Fleischmann Memorial Award to Ron Freeman, Boise; the Wes Lowe Memorial Award to Launa Moser, Preston; and the Duane D. Wolfe Memorial Award to Stein's Market, Rathdrum. Distinguished Service Awards for each of the six activity districts, the Spirit of Sport Award and Official of the Year will also be presented. Those recipients will be announced at a later date.


Hall of Fame - Class of 2012

Jessie Eddy, Parma - Jessie Eddy spent his entire thirty-four year educational career teaching and coaching in the Parma School District. He was the head wrestling coach at Parma High School from 1969-2003 as well as the head tennis coach for twenty years and counting. During that time he was a leader in numerous professional organizations including Third District Coaches Association and the Idaho State Wrestling Coaches Association. Jessie was named Idaho Wrestling Coach of the Year six times and the Idaho Tennis Coach of the Year seven times. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006, receiving the lifetime service award.

Leon Long, Nampa - Idaho schools owe a great deal to dedicated educators such as Leon Long, an exemplary teacher, coach and athletic director who retired from Nampa High School in 1999. Leon devoted thirty-six years to providing quality athletic opportunities for his students. Throughout his illustrious career Leon coached football, baseball, basketball and track, but Leon's impact was most widely felt in the sport of baseball. He has received many awards and accolades in baseball including Idaho State Coach of the Year and the Charles Alvaro Award. Leon also received the IHSAA Wes Lowe Award in 1999.

Gerry Nutt, Kuna - A lifelong teacher, coach, administrator and advocate of high school activities, Gerry Nutt retired as athletic director of Middleton High School in 2011. During an exemplary thirty-six year career, Gerry has held leadership positions in many professional organizations, including the Idaho Athletic Administrators Association, Idaho State Coaches Association and the Third District Coaches Association. He was honored as the Idaho Coach of the Year in track and football as well as Idaho State Athletic Director of the Year. Gerry has served the IHSAA in numerous positions including serving on the Board of Directors, the Classification Committee and serving as a State Tournament Director.
