Interscholastic Star Award

The Interscholastic Star scholarship program is sponsored by the Idaho High School Activities Association and was established in 1992 to recognize and reward outstanding students who participate in high school athletic and non-athletic activities.

Nominees for the scholarships are exemplary students who:

  • Through their participation, strengthen interscholastic sports and activities programs.
  • Are active contributors to school and community organizations and programs.
  • Are good citizens and positive role models for their peers.
  • Promote the ideals of good sportsmanship and citizenship.

2020-21 Scholarship Recipient


Bridget McDonagh, Junior from Bishop Kelly High School has been selected as the “Idaho Star” for 2020-21 and will grace the back covers of the 2021-22 state tournament programs.

All six 2021 Interscholastic Stars are leaders in their schools and communities

  1A DII Star: Dannika Barfuss - North Gem High School

A 4 sport athlete at North Gem HS, Dannika is also active in Student Government, FFA, Cheer, Drama, Speech and Music while active in her community.

  1A DI Star: Halee Bohman - Troy High School

Halee has been a captain and leader of multiple sports and activities at Troy High School while serving as a volunteer firefighter in her community.

  2A Star: Ele Tarkalson - Salmon High School

A multiple sport athlete at Salmon HS, NHS, Student Government and a leader in the schools Music program while assisting with numerous community projects.

  3A Star: Rylee Salvesen - Parma High School

Rylee is a student participant in Answer Plot for FFA, a cheerleader, and participates in 3 sports at Parma HS.

  4A Star: Bridget McDonagh - Bishop Kelly High School

A three-year letterman and captain of the Bishop Kelly Swim Team, Bridget is also a three-time state qualifier in State Speech and Debate.  She has volunteered for refugees working with students on English proficiency while involved in multiple school clubs.

  5A Star: Quinten Carney - Boise High School

Member of the Boise HS State Cross Country, Speech and Debate teams, Quinten also volunteers at the Salvation Army and YMCA.

Interscholastic Stars receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. A $500 check is also given to each Star’s school.  Runner’s up at each level receive a $500 scholarship.  The Overall "Idaho Star" is awarded an addition $1500
